Harmonized System (HS) (customs) A multi-purpose international goods classification system designed to be used by manufacturers, transporters, exporters, importers, customs, statisticians, and others in classifying goods moving in international trade under a single commodity code.
Hatches (shipping) Where cargo is placed in conventional vessels.
HBD (shipping) Harbor Dues. Assessment when vessels enter harbor.
Heated Storage (shipping) Warehouse specifically heated to protect bottle cargo.
Heavy Lift (shipping) Single commodity exceeding the capacity of normal loading equipment and requiring special equipment and rigging methods for handling.
Hedging (finance) A type of economic insurance used by dealers in commodities, foreign exchange and securities, manufacturers, and other producers to prevent loss due to price fluctuations. Hedging consists of counterbalancing a present sale or purchase by another purchase or sale usually set for delivery at some future date.
High Cube Container (shipping) Container 40' in length, 9’6" in height.
House-to-house (shipping) A container yard to container yard shipping.
House to Pier (shipping) Shipper loaded container that will be deconsolidated at destination terminal for distribution.
