Trade Glossary
Waiver (shipping) Document used to allow cargo carriage by different flag vessels than original destination country vessels. Also on government cargoes where cargo flag cannot carry the shipments.
War Risk (shipping) Surcharge covering additional insurance premium incurred by a vessel entering a war zone.
Warehouse (shipping) Building usually located in back up areas or inland where cargo is stored.
Warehouse Entry Applies to imported goods that won’t be used immediately. Duties are deferred until the goods are required. Freight is sent to a customs-licensed warehouse. Upon withdrawal, duties are assessed.
Water Feeder (shipping) Transports cargo to non-direct ports of call.
Write (law) A judicial order to a person, often a sheriff, judge, or another officer of the law, to perform a specified act or to have the act performed.
Weight (shipping) Gross / Long Ton: 1,016 kg (2,240 lbs). Net / Short Ton: 907.19 kg (2,000 lbs). Metric / Kilo Ton: 1,000 kg (2,204.6 lbs).
Wharfage (shipping) A port surcharge assessed when vessel comes alongside.
Wire Transfer (general) Electronic transfer of funds.
